Welcome!

My name is Hadi Khoshneviss, and I am a visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Kenyon College.  My research explores the connections between racialization, colonial history, and global geopolitics. I also study social movements and migration, movement, and mobility.

My doctoral dissertation project investigates (1) how immigrants from southwest Asia (the "Middle East") fought in the US courts to achieve a whiteness in the United States, and (2) how and why they are campaigning to create a new ethnic category (MENA) on the US Census. To answer these questions I draw on decolonial theories and legal documents, court hearings, ethnographic research, and qualitative interviews.

As a scholar of critical race and ethnicity theories, migration and mobility, and social movements, I have taught several courses such as Introduction to Social Sciences, Contemporary Social Problems, Society in Comparative Perspective, both Contemporary and Classical Sociological Theories, and Ethnic and Racial Relations.
